Kia ora,

It was great to see to a good attendance at the new members session and dinner. Recruitment of new members is a key priority for CA. The evening is being followed up with invite to all attendees to attend our next Pitch Evening on 1 September (see details below). Another new member’s recruitment event is being held in November (more details to follow).

A reminder If you have a friend or colleague whom you think may have an interest in angel investing, you are welcome to bring them along to a pitch evening to meet other members, to get a feel how pitch evenings are conducted and to meet informally with Founders.

Investor News

After a delay to our planned August Investor Evening, we have now moved this to the 1st September. We are looking forward to another fantastic event and have a great selection of founders who are pitching. A big thanks to Matt Wiles of ChristchurchNZ and Oliviah Theyers-Collins of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise who are co-hosting.

Make sure you register here to see the following companies pitch:

  • MyMahi uses an innovative self-management approach that encourages and supports learners on their unique journeys through school and work.

  • FoodGen are a plant-based food manufacturer & multi brand that is leading the way for mass adoption to a more sustainable future. Their vision is to bridge the gap between consumers and accessibility of plant-based food. Helping them reduce their intake of animal products.

  • Cupla is the relationship management app for couples to optimise and enhance their time together. At the core of Cupla’s offering is the world's best-shared calendar for couples that aggregates both parties' complete schedules into a single view. This is combined with shared to-do lists, our date-night manager, and in NZ, integrated date-night discovery and restaurant booking feature, Book Now!

Events

At the end of July, we held our much anticipated inaugural members dinner. We started at the ChristchurchNZ offices where we heard from several of our members sharing their ‘warts and all’ experiences of being an Angel Investor. We then moved onto the Craft Embassy for dinner which topped off a very informative and enjoyable evening. Watch this space for the next one which we are in the process of organising!

Angel Investors Marlborough (AIM) finally made it down to Christchurch after COVID impacted their visit to the garden city in March. It was great to catch up with them and some of their portfolio companies to share war stories from the top of the mainland.

The second Angel Association Summit of the year is coming around fast, and it is back in the South Island at another fantastic venue in Queenstown. Make sure you secure your place here for what will be another amazing event.
